Bible Verses of the Week

The Way, the Truth and the Life

1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” (NIV, John 14:1–7)

The world of Jesus' disciples was about to collapse. Soon Jesus would be crucified then return to heaven. His disciples would be left alone, and their Christian ministry would bring them persecution and even death. Jesus assured them that there was room for all in heaven and they need not fear, despite what may happen to them in this life. Life is difficult, and we may find our earthly lives collapsing too. But Jesus assures us that there will be room in heaven for all who remain faithful. Our earthly lives are only a moment in time compared to eternity, so we should not fear for the future (Matthew 10:28-31, Romans 8:18).

Jesus is the way to eternal life. Through obedience to His teachings and the guidance of the Holy Spirit He leads us in God's ways. Jesus is the truth. He offers us truth we can rely on, not deceptions and lies like many people of this world. Jesus is the life. He offers us the life we desire, a life even more glorious than we can imagine.
